2002 Summer Classes

July 2002 Classes with Seattle area artist, Randy Walker took us through the classroom and back into the studio with a measured understanding of the whys and hows of glassblowing. We honed our skills, reinforced our approach to basic forms and developed a process for problem solving.

The Studio, Corning, New York
The class at Corning was duel focus. Efforts in the Hot Shop were geared toward Cold Shop designs. After learning about grinders and wheels for carving and surface treatment we approached the hot glass with altered intent; considering softer, accessible curves and attractive asymmetry. Color placement became an issue; deep or on the surface for desired effect. We made more "blanks" in the Hot Shop than we had time to finish in the Cold Shop. Back in Houston, we hope to outfit our lathes and run with our newfound enthusiasm for coldworking.
